PROJECT NARRATIVE

In February 2004, the PADEP awarded Abington Township a Growing Greener Grant to partially fund a project to install a BIOS . This project included the purchase, installation and integration of the BIOS followed by a ~10 month monitoring period. The goal of the monitoring program was to assess the benefits of the BIOS over conventional control methods via a side by side comparison. This was accomplished by concurrently operating parallel process trains under BIOS control and conventional control while continuously monitoring the conditions and performance of each process train for comparison purposes. The BIOS controlled aeration tank (Tank 7) showed a 11% decrease in the air requirement with a 35% reduction in the NH3-N concentration.
